Leveraging Social Media Facebook The City of Copperas Cove is using social media to “Get the Message Out” to citizens and is striving to achieve goals of its Strategic Plan to enhance outreach by using social media. In addition, the City is developing new citizen engagement processes by implementing an interactive citizen web site. The City of Copperas Cove joined Facebook in September of 2011. Since that time, the City’s Face-book page has had 1,203 Likes and an average weekly Reach of 1,365 people. The City’s Facebook page has had visitors from all over Texas, the United States and the world. The City uses Facebook to post in-formation on city events, Press Re-leases, available jobs with the City, and notifications for citizens. In the City’s continuing efforts, a new interactive website for citizens is being planned. This web site seeks to achieve goals of the City’s Strategic Plan by developing and enhancing citizen engagement. Providing easy to use online tools to get citizen ideas and feedback, the web site will be designed to cre-ate focused conversations and obtain citizen input on City initiatives. Productive citizen participa-tion helps to improve out-comes and with citizen partic-ipation timely and actionable feedback and be obtained. The city will seek citizen participa-tion by hosting citizen surveys on the web site. SpeakUp Copperas Cove!
