Nineteen years. It’s hard to believe that time has quietly kept pace, surfacing only on special occasions — like our anniversary — to remind us that, ultimately, it rules. But then we look back at what began in 1991 with a notepad and a typesetter. Few people had personal computers back in the day, but after a few short months, we expanded by purchasing one five-year-old, $5,000 Macintosh. We were high-timing it then! It wasn’t until the mid ’90s that we roared onto the internet highway — using dial-up — and discovered a useful high-tech tool called email. Computers were becoming more commonplace in the world, but it still wasn’t unusual to ask, “Do you have email?” Today, the office hums with gizmos and gadgets, from an interactive website to social media. And throughout it all, the magazine’s mission has remained unchanged: Promote the positive aspects of Downtown Memphis. Congratulations, Jodie, on 19 years. Your magazine wears them well.
