“Progress is impossible without change…” – George Bernard Shaw This issue of Cardiology will be the last in its current format.Starting with the January 2017 issue, ACC’s Cardio Source World News and Cardiology magazines will merge into a single publication, providing cardiovascular professionals with one, comprehensive source of clinical and professional news. Alfred Bove, MD, MACC, and I will serve as the editors-inchief of the new Cardiology magazine, along with Peter C. Block, MD, FACC, who will continue as editor-in-chief of Cardiology Interventions, formerly CSWN: Interventions. The new Cardiology will be produced by the ACC and American Medical Communications and published as a large-format news magazine. It’s mission: to provide cardiovascular professionals across the entire spectrum of cardiovascular care with information on the latest research, science and clinical guidelines in the context of daily clinical practice, as well as updates and commentary on profession news and trends. The new Cardiology will bring together the best of both publications based on member feedback, including summaries of the hottest research from major cardiovascular and medical journals like ACC’s own JACC Journals. It will also feature expert commentary and features on controversial issues, latest trends, health care innovation and technology, and more. Additionally, Cardiology will provide readers with the latest in health care policy, ACC news, and updates on clinical guidelines and appropriate use criteria. During my tenure as editor-in-chief of Cardiology, I’ve had the privilege of working with an outstanding publications team including Shalen Fairbanks (Executive Editor) and Shannon Schaper (Managing Editor). Contributing writers, including Alexandra Buck, Kim Kaylor, Shealy Molpus, Autumn Niggles, Mary Mosley, Andreea Candela, Rachel Cagan and others, who have made the magazine the highly valued publication it is today. Cardiology's Design and Production teams, including Tony Ciccolella, Dani Smith, Merrick McSwiggan, Caroline Leibowitz, Kristen Moye and Samantha Fraser, have truly set the bar high with their creativity and vision. Cardiology magazine has received numerous awards over the past seven years for graphic design and production and has been consistently praised by ACC members both in the U.S. and our global audience. Kudos to the entire team for their commitment to excellence and consistent recognition. Cardiology has been the member publication of the ACC since 1972. It has survived many changes and iterations over time (see below) – changing as the College has changed. It has been said that there is a natural release of energy every seven years that encourages us to move forward and make changes. The past seven years have seen continued growth and expansion of the ACC into a global organization representing over 52,000 members focused on transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health. The new Cardiology will be responsive to this change in membership, as well as changes in technology. I am excited to see Cardiology transition once again to a monthly magazine and I’m proud to work with Drs. Bove and Block on this next chapter in its long history. Stay tuned for more new and great features, as well as new digital options. We look forward to receiving your feedback as we transition to the new format – this, after all, is YOUR publication.
