Braces: “a term the Brits used” according to Dan Morroni one of our fashion experts: In the late 1820’s Albert Thurston invented the idea. Pants were worn high wasted and what was happening was that the slacks, trousers and pants would slide down, so a belt really wouldn’t work. So, he came up with the concept of canvas straps that went around your shoulders and had sewn into them two buttons and two in the back that connect inside and hold your pants up. The difference between suspenders and braces: Braces have buttons, used for more a more formal corporate setting or formal social events and are often worn with tuxedos. Suspenders are less formal and have clips, not as fancy and can be worn with jeans.
