QUICK ROD NORTHERN NITRO JAM Moser won his first-ever IHRA national event at the same time. It was exciting. We already had a car qualified in Top Dragster for Virginia, so I jumped over to Quick Rod. It worked out better than we could have planned,” said Elrod. “Con-gratulations to Robbie on his big win.” Jacob also had a strong weekend at Martin. He navigated his way to the semifinal round of Super Rod, but fell in a tough race to eventual runner-up Ed Mac. “Everyone had a great time this weekend. We did well and things turned out good,” said El-rod. “I even made it to the semifinals of the Moser Axle Mania Shootout. I could not have asked for anything more.” Elrod qualified 17 out of 43 total drivers. He posted a run of 8.999 at over 175 mph. Top-ping the qualifier sheet was Jeff Ledford; his .023 package consisted of a .017 light and 8.906 big end charge. Ledford lasted until the semifinal round, where he was paired with Richardson. The two drivers fought it out for a chance to meet Elrod in the finals. On his only bye run of the weekend, Elrod coasted through the semis by taking a lengthy green light and coasting down the track in 10-plus seconds. But he was fully prepared for the final as it came to be. Team Elrod now has two entries in Quick Rod and one in Top Dragster for Virginia. It seems like they are stacking the deck and gunning for another world title. Stanton, Michigan’s Jeff Ledford was the top qualifier in Quick Rod at the Northern Nitro Jam, and he drove his 2007 Warrior-built dragster from the No. 1 position to the semifi-nals during the elimination rounds. Racing out of New Lenox, Illinois, was Walter Pope, who drove his 2004 Power dragster into the No.8 start-ing spot following Friday qualifying. On race day Pope went to the fourth round of competition to claim a quarterfinal finish. It was a good weekend in Michigan for Bryan Richardson, who brought his 2003 Worthy dragster from Woodburn, Indiana, to take a shot at Quick Rod gold. Richardson qualified twenty third, and raced to a runner-up finish Saturday afternoon.
