What is Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA)? Established in 2000 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, CFA is YOUR community foundation. CFA’s core purpose is to connect all generous people with the causes they care about. CFA is a donor service company whose entrepreneurial and donor-focused model accommodates the charitable and philanthropic objectives of our donors, making CFA one of Louisiana’s premier philanthropic organizations. CFA is an essential organization that benefits our region and state with a special focus on Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion parishes. Why CFA? CFA provides wise stewardship of generous resources and objectives. Since its inception, CFA is in receipt (cumulatively) of $92 million in charitable and philanthropic gifts. More importantly, CFA is the custodian of important and specific philanthropic objectives. These assets are invested to mirror the objectives of individual donors. CFA’s capable Investment Committee carefully oversees performance of these assets. These pooled investments benefit all donors and reduce investment management expenses, providing maximum charitable benefit. Secondly, CFA offers the provision of expert services and administration of all donor Funds – discretionary, scholarship, designated or advised. Charitable Funds can be established with any amount; established amounts and subsequent balances are never public – not even to CFA’s Board of Directors. Funds are typically named and can receive contributions from any source. All contributions are tax-deductible and appropriately acknowledged by CFA directly to the donor. Per donor direction or agreement, the Foundation accommodates all grants from Funds to any number of US 501(c)(3) nonprofits, churches, or schools. As an added option, CFA offers DONORSense®, an online searchable database of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, schools and churches, which arms donors with the information necessary to make effective giving decisions. Grants are made following strict IRS guidelines. Grant checks and cover letters bear the name of the Fund, unless donors want anonymity. CFA provides regular fund statements which keeps the donor abreast of all Fund activities. CFA works with all donors – individuals, families, businesses, and other foundations – and their professional advisors to customize services appropriately. Finally, as a trusted partner , professionally governed, CFA provides leadership on community needs, initiatives, and opportunities. CFA can collaborate with other entities, including other nonprofits, foundations, local and state governments, and entrepreneurial commercial corporations to satisfy unique objectives.
