This group is composed of talented individuals who demonstrate crafts done by Pioneer Settlers. This group is led by Bill Bair, who does wood carving, other demonstrations include pine needle basket weaving, butter churning, spinning and also includes a blacksmith. The SWEAT group will be there all day both days selling their wares and demonstrating their craft. Also returning to Pioneer Days are the Florida Flywheelers who will be there with antique tractors, engines, and toys for the public to see as well as a Civil War era camp with an authentic tent, costumes, and other materials. Pioneer Days will begin Friday evening October 26th with the annual Quilt Reception at the Depot Museum from 5-7pm. This year’s display consists of quilts and needlecraft items from the museum’s own collection as well as those on loan from local residents. The exhibit contains both cherished heirlooms as well as newer creations. The exhibit features pieces spanning the period from the 18th century to the present. The oldest quilt “Lemoyne Star” dates from the 1790s. Some of the styles featured in this year’s exhibit include Amish, Tree of Life, Sun Bonnet Sue, Double Wedding Ring, Crazy Quilts, Friendship Quilts, Needlepoint Quilts, Grandmother’s Flower Garden, Postage Stamps and Cathedral Window. In addition to the full size varieties, the exhibit will also include a number of miniature quilts displayed on miniature beds from the collection of Mimi Reid Hardman, director of the Depot Museum. Also on display is a collection of antique and one of a kind buttons from Frances Robinson. The exhibit will be on display through November.
