The overall dis-trict grade was a “B”. The district’s SAT scores went up overall, and are above the state and national averages. Pinellas seniors improved four points on the combined score (critical reading and math) of the SAT (1023 score). Thirty-five students were named 2010 Na-tional Merit semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Palm Harbor Middle School was home to the 2010 National Geographic Bee Winner, the first ever Floridian to win this award. Pinellas County Schools has 470 National Board-Certified teachers. Seminole Elementary was named a 2010 National School of Character; Fuguitt and Oakhurst Elementary schools were awarded the 2010 National Profile in Character dis-tinction. Bay Point Middle School won the top award for the state and the Florida Dairy Council in the “Fuel Up to Play 60” health/fitness pro-gram. The district’s 2010 senior class reported scholarship/financial aid offers in the amount of $34,054,438. The Tarpon Springs High Jacobson Culinary Arts Academy won first place in Gourmet, first place in Management Team, first place Overall in the Florida ProStart State Culinary Championship. Maximo Elementary received the 2010 Magnet Schools of America School of Dis-tinction award. Jamerson Elementary re-ceived the 2010 Magnet Schools of America School of Excellence award. A Gibbs High School graduating senior re-ceived the prestigious 2010 Presidential Scholar recognition and another Gibbs se-nior received a 2010 Gates Millennium Scholar honor.
