Innovation at Work for You Bringing the future into the present. We’ve been doing it since we opened our doors for business in 1908. When George F. Moss Sr. pioneered a way to create envelopes fl at before folding, he knew the success of Western States hinged upon forward thinking. Why are future innovations such an integral part of our business? Staying ahead of the curve helps us help you and your customers run smarter, more profi table businesses. That’s why we’re pleased to share some of our latest technologies with you in this feature… IMb Deadline on Hold enough to do rush jobs and short runs without sacrifi cing color accuracy or quality. Ink Mixing Meets the Future We recently added a revolutionary ink-mixing machine that sets a new standard in accurate, high-quality, eco-friendly color printing. The Rexon Color Point Advanced Ink Dispense technology represents the next major change in the way ink is mixed and distributed here at Western States. Its ink-blending technology and color capacity is unmatched in the industry. It provides an easier, more cost-effective way to give maximum color possibilities with an eco-friendly, ink-recycling capability. It’s fl exible Looking Forward in Label Production The label market is moving towards shorter runs with more variation capabilities. We’ll help you and your customers meet this demand with our newest digital label press. It’s equipped with award-winning workfl ow capabilities, easily deliver outstanding 4 color reproduction. It handles web widths up to 9" and prints up to 8.3", this digital system also eliminates the need for pre-printing most substrates. In February of 2011, USPS management reversed an earlier decision that an Intelligent Mail™ barcode (IMb) would be required to claim automation discounts on all letters and fl ats after May 2011. There is no announced future implementation date. In a recent news release, Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe said “We heard concerns that we were moving too fast on discontinuing POSTNET coding, and we will continue to offer the automation prices for mail with POSTNET barcodes beyond May 2011.” Instead of a carrot-and-stick approach to IMb implementation, the USPS is abandoning the stick. While you and your customers breathe a sigh of relief with no conversion deadline, please continue to pursue IMb implementation. Why? Future enhancements to mailing technologies will be built around the IMb. The richness of information and usable data generated by the IMb creates more value for the mailer. That is something you use to sell the value of mail to your customers. In fact, Donahoe emphasized the value of Intelligent Mail and noted that so far more than 41 billion pieces of mail have been processed using IMb. We’ve created Your Intelligent Mail™ Survival Guide to help implement this barcode on your mailings and mailings you produce for your customers. Request your copy of the Intelligent Mail Survival Guide via the reply card and we will be happy to send it to you.
