Letter From the Editor Oregonians and the cocktail culture. By Hoke Harden Hoke Harden W elcome to Oregon Spirits Digest, a quarterly magazine for people who appreciate fi ne spirits as a part of their lifestyle . Oregon is at the epicenter of the tremendous growth of, and interest in, wines and spirits that is sweeping through the country. It has even been recognized and dubbed “DrinkCity USA” by Bon Appétit Magazine! And Oregonians are not only consuming many of those fi ne spirits — they’re also making many of them! Oregon is recognized as a sophisticated, trend-setting market for bartenders and creative mixolo-gists, a place where the ‘cocktail culture’ is creat-ing its own trends and spreading them across the country, exerting a stylistic infl uence on New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other large metropolitan areas. During his career, Hoke has consulted on restaurant beverage lists, beverage programs, and private wine collections; appraised wines; conducted wine auctions; judged at regional, national and international wine competitions; written articles for manuals, magazines and peri-odicals; taught countless classes from novices to professionals; lectured at universities and at executive training sessions; worked with great Chefs and culinary institutions; and par-ticipated in numerous educational foramats.
