In March, updated guidelines for the use of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in patients with coronary artery disease were released by the ACC and the American Heart Association (AHA). Due to the complexity of the update and since it updated recommendations on the duration of DAPT across six previously published guidelines, the ACC developed several resources and tools to help its stakeholders better understand the changes. Notably, a clinically-focused hub was created at ACC.org/DAPT to host all of the ACC resources, expert commentary, video interviews, a poll, a message board and more. Here is a snapshot of the DAPT Focused Update Hub: According to Kim A. Eagle, MD, MACC, editor-in-chief of ACC.org, “This update will have an impact on many stakeholders, including the practicing cardiologist, the interventionalist, the surgeon, and the internist, and of course, our patients. Seldom have we seen a single area of cardiovascular research impact such a broad array of our ACC/AHA Clinical Practice Guidelines.” 1 Links are available to the full Focused Update article published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, as well as the Systematic Review. 2 A slide deck is available for better understanding of the Focused Update via PowerPoint. 3 A “Key Points to Remember” article is available for those who are looking for highlights of the Focused Update. 4 A “DAPT Focused Update Tool” provides clinicians with guidance when treating SIHD and ACS patients undergoing PCI. 5 ACC's Guideline Clinical App is the mobile home of clinical guideline content and tools for clinicians caring for patients with cardiovascular disease. The App is available for free in the iTunes (iPhone, iPad) and Google Play (Galaxy, Nexus, other Android devices) app stores. 6 Educational content is available for ACC.org users to test their knowledge. 7 An audio interview with Glenn N. Levine, MD, FACC, chair of the writing committee for the document, is available. 8 A CardioSmart patient-focused article is available for patients. 9 A video interview with Peter Block, MD, FACC, and Glenn N. Levine, MD, FACC, is available. 10 ACC experts – including Nanette Kass Wenger, MD, MACC; Lee Fleisher, MD, FACC; Faisal Bakaeen, MD; Patrick T. O’Gara, MD, MACC; David R. Holmes Jr., MD, MACC; Glenn N. Levine, MD, FACC; Richard A. Lange, MD, MBA, FACC; and Debabrata Mukherjee, MD, FACC – were asked to address a number of questions about the Focused Update. 11 A poll shows that the majority of ACC.org users will change their behavior based on the recommendations. 12 A Twitter feed includes all of the latest #DAPT conversations on Twitter. 13 A Comments message board is available for ACC.org users to leave their thoughts and questions.
